Boise, Idaho’s 1st Annual Jamaal Al-Din’s Hoops 227 Summer Basketball Camp was a huge success. With community support from local area businesses to coverage of several media outlets, this could be a possible foreshadowing of things to come in the city of trees! Over 30 area sponsors support Jamaal Al-Din’s Hoops 227 which boasts a creative agenda of having 5 different countries represented in it’s 1st annual summer basketball camp which was held at Boise’s Owyhee Elementary.Coach Jamaal had kids dancing on the court during the later part of the day, which, at many youth basketball camps is unheard of, especially in Idaho. Yes, as evident by the coverage shown by local ABC television affiliate KIVI Channel 6 News this basketball camp and Coach Jammal Al-Din, himself, was able to keep Boise’s youth entertained and excited about Naismith’s game of basketball, one of our countries national past times, for the duration of his two-day basketball clinic. Countries such as Somalia, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Columbia, and the United States were  represented by the kids who attended the 1st annual Jamaal Al-Din’s Hoops 227 Summer Basketball Camp! Coach Jamaal’s participants, 3rd-6th grades, shot an astounding 80-85% from the free throw line, as Jamaal Al-Din taught lessons attributed to Baden’s “Smartball” system advertised on ESPN and NFL Network and developed by his former high-school coach, Ed Palubinskas, the former Olympic record holder, LSU great, and former free throw tutor of the NBA’s 4-time World Champion, Shaquille O’Neal who now hosts a series on ABC television promoting healthy kids!  During the summer of 2007, there were are more than 50 youth sports camps presently advertised for youth in Boise, Idaho and Jamaal Al-Din’s Hoops 227 holds acclaim to media coverage given as result of a giving nature which should be modeled by our nation’s AAU coaches and business owners alike!…His camp participants attended for free as a result of such great community support! How else would a group of talented refugee students take part in camp which charged an entry fee of $75-$225 as most do? This was a model structured basketball camp for ada county aau and others to immulate. Why, because kids who are extremely athletic and gifted, recieved the opportunity to participate in a sporting venue that otherwise they would not have been able to attend. The self-esteem generated by such an event is immeasurable.Coach Jamaal Al-Din will not stop there. These same camp participants will be invited back, in late August for a FREE School Supply Giveaway, sponsored by Boise area businesses! Now, in my mind, this solves two issues. Number one, kids from other contries or cultures may have a difficult time with studies and the english language, resulting in summer school, FREE school supplies will help that cause. And number two, refugee children, etc, attend the first day of school with new books and pens similar to those students who later end up attending our nation’s Yale and Harvard Universities. Hey, the self-fulfilling prophecy is alive and real and maybe these kids will end up doing the same…become Ivy League graduates!Coach Jamaal is quickly opening doors for Boise, Idaho’s youth, and hopefully others will be inspired, as evident by, get this, you open up the Boise newspaper (Idaho Statesman) and the community events section, this week, now lists an organization as ”Hoops 101″ hosting its own free basketball clinic in late July, hey Coach, you’ve done it! Lastly, the community and media support has been a true compliment to the people of Boise. Randy, of local ABC television affiliate KIVI Channel 6 News did an outstanding job with coverage. Get this, the guy even went so far as speaking with each participant of the camp, individually! These kids had the time of a lifetime. And the original date scheduled for an interview with Coach Jamaal was changed from June 13, 2007 to June 14, 2007, which could not have been better timing, as the newscast ended up preceding game 4 of the NBA Finals aired on June 14, 2007 day of this particular newscast! Great job KIVI Channel 6, prime exposure of a great cause, thank-you! Jamaal Al-Din’s Hoops 227- the everything basketball website, is off to a great start! If you love basketball, you’ve probably dreamed of playing like a pro. You’ve probably pictured yourself making the perfect game winning shot just as the buzzer sounds. Practicing jump shots, three pointers, and rebounds is just part of the fun. Though not everyone can be a professional basketball player, finding a basketball hoop like the pros use can make your time at the hoop both fun and challenging. Using a professional style basketball hoop can give you the best chance to improve your overall game.
There are many components of a professional regulation style basketball hoop. The backboard is one of the most important components of a basketball hoop. There are many choices of materials when it comes to backboards, but professional style backboards are made out of glass. Glass is the professional choice because of how the ball interacts with the glass. The basketball rebounds effortlessly off a glass backboard. A glass backboard will not bend or dent and will remain smooth even after much play. This makes it possible for fair play since the surface area will not change after intense use.
One negative of a glass backboard it that it has the potential to shatter, but this is part of the excitement of the game. If a player were to shatter the backboard during a professional game, a back-up one is ready. Though it is rare for this to happen, if you want to play like a pro, you need to go with a glass backboard for the ultimate backboard surface.
For a professional style basketball hoop, you will need the glass backboard to be reinforced with heavy aluminum. This gives the whole hoop extra stability and welded corners provide additional security. The backboard on a professional style basketball hoop will also have rounded corners to ensure that the players are safe when going up for the perfect shot or slam dunk.
A professional style basketball hoop is 42 inches x 72 inches for the maximum rebound area. This large size gives players a chance to make shots and get the rebounds. A professional style backboard will also have a boarder and a target marked out with white paint. For most professional style hoops, the outlines are applied to the backboard with heat to ensure that they are deep into the glass and will not wear off. Having the target marked out gives increase chances for accuracy when going for the perfect shot.
When it comes to a professional style basketball hoop, the goal also has some specific requirements. If you want your basketballs system to be like the pros, you will need a steel goal with a net. The goal on professional style basketball hoops is a flex goal which means it has some flexibility. It should be strong enough to withhold 230 pounds of pressure so that slam dunks are safe and without worry of injury. Also, the net is made from Anti-whip nylon to help reduce any chances of hand injuries.
Playing like a professional can be fun and challenging when using a professional style basketball hoop.

Once you make the decision to buy basketball goals and basketball hoops for personal or community use, you may think that the matter is closed. This isn’t necessarily the case. Several accessories are available to help you get the most out of your basketball equipment.
If you have decided to buy a basketball goal or basketball hoop with a crank to raise and lower the rim height, you may want to make sure that it stays at the level you have selected. In that case, the FT 12 lock is the solution to the problem. This key operated handle lock can be used on either the 4″, 5″ or 6″ EZ-Crank adjustable goal systems.
A ground anchor kit is available if you buy one of the outdoor basketball goals and basketball hoops offered. In it you will find everything you need to install an EZ-Crank adjustable basketball system, including a template, rebar, hex bolts and J-bolts. A set of instructions has also been included.
Outdoor basketball goals and basketball hoops for outdoor use need to be grounded, and buying a ground sleeve makes the process a lot easier. The sleeves are meant to cement into place and the post fits neatly inside. Eight tension bolts hold the post in place, and the sleeve is buried 36″ below the playing surface. The post is then perfectly leveled.
When it’s time to practice drills, you will appreciate the fact that you have a ball carrier to keep all of them stored neatly. The casters on all four corners make the unit easy to move into place and back into storage once the game or practice is finished.
What home basketball court would be complete without having lines stenciled in the concrete of your driveway or patio area? Use Basketball Court Stencil Kit FT 20 to paint a free throw line, regulation line and circle on any blacktop or cement surface.
Practice time needs to be used to its best advantage, and you can minimize the time you spend chasing after stray shots and passes by buying the FT 22 Defender Ball Retention Net. When you shop for basketball hoops and basketball goals, there are important features you need to look for. You want to find equipment that is easy to assemble, easy to set-up, well constructed, and durable. When shopping for portable basketball hoops, be aware that pole gauge can range from 3.5” to 4.5”. Thicker is better for setups, more solid, and less prone to sway. Adjustable height is recommended for portable hoops. For in-ground basketball hoops, height adjustable mechanisms tend to add sway. Of gas assisted lifts and crank lifts, gas is more convenient and lasts about 6 years. Crank lifts are simpler, last forever, and offer a finer degree of control. For maximum stiffness, get a non-adjustable mechanism. You want to be assured that the hoops will not break or bend. You want rugged shatter guard back boards and stable bases. Backboard material can range form stamped opaque plastic to clear acrylic to clear glass; glass is the best material as it is 33% stiffer to allow for truer bounces. Backboards range in size form 44” to 72”, the bigger the better to allow for more backboard shots. What’s the biggest betting event of the year in North America? If you guessed the Super Bowl you’re wrong. While the Super Bowl lays claim to being the largest wagered on single event of the year, March Madness surpasses the Super Bowl for the sports betting public, albeit the tourney stretches over three weeks.

There is still a full month and a bit of college basketball to be played before Selection Sunday, but the talk of “Bubble” teams and tournament seeds is starting to heat up as we are in the most exciting part of the NCAA hoops schedule.

The North Carolina Tar Heels took it on the chin last night from bitter rival Duke. Online Betting sportsbooks had Duke as a -5.5-point favorite, a number they easily covered.

While the Tar Heels won the NCAA basketball championship last season, they lost power forward Tyler Hansbrough to the NBA and have been a shadow of their former selves this season.

UNC is near the bottom of the ACC standings (10th) with a record of 13-11 straight up overall, 2-7 SU in the ACC and a record of 6-15 against the spread.

The Tar Heels got off to a respectable start going 12-4 SU in their first 16 games but have gone 1-7 in their last eight.

North Carolina is now preparing for a game against the intrastate rival North Carolina State Wolfpack on Saturday.

As mentioned, the ‘Heels have been of struggling as of late straight up, but they have also been an awful play for sports bettors, going 3-11 ATS in their last 14.

In their last 13 games, North Carolina has a record of 3 Overs and 10 Unders.

The Tar Heels are equally unimpressive in their last 11 road games, going 4-7 SU and 3-8 ATS.

However, UNC could be poised to win Saturday as they are 10-3 SU and ATS in their last 13 at North Carolina State.

Another traditional power, like North Carolina, the Connecticut Huskies have fallen on hard times, at least lately.

Ranked No. 12 and 14 respectively in the AP and USA Today preseason polls, UConn has pretty much fallen off the radar.

While the Huskies are 14-9 SU overall, they are only 8-13 ATS.

Connecticut has a Saturday home tilt against the Cincinnati Bearcats on deck.

UConn has been a force at home however, going 16-4 SU and are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.

In the last five tilts between the two, the Huskies are 4-1 SU and ATS.

While the UConn Huskies are near the bottom of the Big East standings, the same can’t be said of the No. 4 West Virginia Mountaineers and the No. 23 Pittsburgh Panthers and the two meet on Friday at the Petersen Events Center.

WVU and Pitt sit third and fifth in the conference respectively.

The Mountaineers have not fared well when visiting Pittsburgh, going 3-9 SU and 4-7-1 ATS.

The Panthers are 17-3 SU in their last 20 home games and are 14-1 SU in their last 15 at Petersen.

We’re a little over a month away from the start of March Madness 2010 so there’s plenty of time to warm up with your college hoops betting.

Good luck this week.
