Before we start, sorry for the long lay-off chaps, we’ve all been very busy! But I digress.
The Wolves, losers of 12 of 14 and coming off a 29 point thrashing against Utah, look to find an oasis of mediocrity in Sacramento as they had west to take on the depleted Kings. Sacto has been minus their top two scorers in Kevin Martin and Ron Artest, and both are listed as “day-to-day” and may play in tonight’s contest. John Salmons and Francisco Garcia have stepped up in K-Mart and Ron Ron’s absences this season, bumping their PPG averages to around 22 and 16, respectively. The Wolves will be looking at tonight’s game as an opportunity to get back to playing the time of focused, disciplined basketball they came out of the All Star break playing; the Wolves have lost their last two games by an average of 24.5 points (ouch). The two meetings between the teams so far this year have resulted in close games and a win for each team, so tonight’s contest should be a nail biter between two of the NBA’s non-elite!
*NOTE* No post-game audio tonight, busy busy y’all.
Coming off of a 4th quarter collapse against Dallas on Sunday, the Wolves face one of the NBA’s hottest teams as the Northwest division rival Utah Jazz roll into Target Center. With the NBA still buzzing with its big-name trades (Shaq, Matrix, Pau, Kidd, etc.), the trade to acquire Kyle Korver from the 76ers has, thus far, seemed to be the one with the most impact, as the Jazz are 20-4 since acquiring the Creighton sharpshooter. A matchup to look forward to will be at the power forward position, as two of the NBA’s elite square off in Carlos Boozer and Al Jefferson. They should get used to each other, as these two teams will be playing each other 4 times in the next month and a half. Will the Wolves be able to record their first division win? Tune in and find out.

Coming off of a disappointing, yet encouraging, loss to the San Antonio Spurs, the Wolves look to keep up their focused play as the new look Dallas Mavericks come into Target Center. The Wolves were lead by Al Jefferson, whose 28 points were particularly impressive, seeing as he was going right at Tim Duncan. The San Antonio game also saw the return of Theo Ratliff, who, despite receiving limited minutes, was productive and impressive. The Mavericks, since making their huge trade to acquire Jason Kidd, are 1-1, and overall have lost 4 of their last 5. With the ulta-competitive West being so tight, contenders like the Mavericks are going to look at games like tonight as must-wins; if the Wolves can produce the kind of effort we saw on Thursday night against the Spurs, it should make for an entertaining contest.

On a day in which brought many established NBA players new homes….the Timberwolves and Spurs decided to play a basketball game. The Wolves, coming off of an impressive victory on Tuesday against a streaking Philadelphia squad, were amongst the teams moving some of their pieces today, as they traded really-high-jumper Gerald Green to the Houston Rockets for Kirk Snyder and a future 2nd round pick. Randy Foye, who started against Philly, may again start for the Wolves, and word is Coach Wittman may even be ready to dust off Theo Ratliff for some minutes. The Spurs, coined “The Lord of the Rings” by some oh-so-clever basketball pundits, are coming off a victory against Charlotte in which they didn’t allow more than 18 points during any quarter, and are leading the NBA in scoring defense (an impressive 91 points a game). Mr. Eva Langoria may even see time tonight; all these factors should make for a can’t miss.
Coming off of a disappointing loss at New Jersey, the Wolves head back to the friendly confines of Target Center to take on the revitalized Lakers. The Lakers, who traded “Downtown” Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, and likely a lengthy thank you note for Pau Gasol, are suddenly one of the favorites in the West, and with the addition of Andrew Bynum in a few weeks, will have one of the most formidable front lines in basketball. The Wolves, on the other hand, have lost 4 in a row, and are looking to go into the All Star break on a high note. A matchup to look forward to will be Al Jefferson going against Pau Gasol. Neither are particularly strong on the defensive end, so look for both to put up big numbers tonight. It will take a special effort to take down the uber-confident Lakers tonight; I’m sure you’ll tune in and find out how it goes!

The young and somewhat disappointing Timberwolves head out east to face the much older and much more disappointing New Jersey Nets tonight in an inter-Conference matchup. The Nets, coming off of an impressive 101-82 demolition against Dallas, fell earlier in the year to the Wolves in Minnesota. Despite the Nets having momenum on their side, the Wolves can take heart in the fact that the Nets are actually a worse home team (11-15) than on the road (11-14). Coming off of a particularly flat performance against Toronto on Sunday, Randy Wittman should have his squad prepared for tonight’s battle against JKidd, Vinsanity, RJeff, and whatever other goofy nickname you’d like to come up with.

The Wolves month at home, continues today as they take on the canadian Raptors. Sam Mitchell, pictured here wearing hot pants, comes back to Target Center to lead his team past the Timberwolves, who haven’t beaten the Raps in over three years. While they are putting together a solid season, being one of only five teams out east with a winning record (wtf?) the Raptors have played inconsistanly this season and seem to live and die by the jump shot. Chris Bosh, who is headed to the all star game next weekend, will have his hands full tonight as he tries to contain Al Jefferson The Wolves have continued their recent stretch of overall good play, falling to the team with the best record in the league by only a point on Friday evening. Should be a close one tonight in downtown Minneapolis.

Hot meets cold (weather wise, that is) tonight as the suddenly respectable Timberwolves host the Houston Rockets. The Wolves, who have won 5 of 7 and are suddenly contending to not be the worst team in the NBA, are playing their best basketball of the season behind Al Jefferson and a cast of young players (Rashad McCants, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair) who are finally starting to realize their role on this team. Their confidence should be high going into tonight’s game after a 104-83 thrashing of the Clippers on Friday night, and everyone should be rested. Tonight will not be easy however, as the Houston Rockets come into tonight’s game having won 7 straight games on the road. Tracy McGrady, who missed the Rockets’ 113-82 win over the Wolves on January 11th due to a left knee injury, is back, and playing well, having scored 30+ points in his last 2 meetings against the Wolves. It should be a hot battle in chilly Minneapolis tonight at Target Center.
